Blackwood Basin Group

The Blackwood Basin Group is a non profit, community organisation that coordinates environmental management within the Blackwood River catchment in WA's SW

The Blackwood River winds through the largest catchment in the South West region of Western Australia, covering approximately 22,000 square kilometres from Dumbleyung in the east to Augusta in the west.
The Blackwood Basin Group is a not-for-profit, community-managed
Landcare group that has assisted landholders in caring for the
natural resources of our catchment for over twenty years. The group provides leadership, coordination and education in sustainable resource management.
The biggest environmental threats to the Blackwood Catchment are salinity, erosion, waterlogging and the decline of biodiversity. The Blackwood Basin Group works with the community to achieve long-term environmental outcomes.
We work with the community, Blackwood Landcare Zone groups and Regional NRM group SWCC to manage these issues through education and on-ground works. We maintain the balance between environmental protection, cultural diversity and economic productivity in the Blackwood in order to meet the needs of the local communities.
The Blackwood Basin Group runs a number of programs each year to assist landholders and the community to better manage their natural resources. These include information workshops, financial assistance and support for on-ground works, and provision of useful contacts and training for addressing environmental issues.
